Curriculum

CT

  • CT technology includes a dual source-dual energy CT, PET-CT, and multiple 128 and 64 slice scanners
  • Advanced imaging with continuous updates to CT protocols including high resolution chest CT, low dose chest CT, dual energy CT, gated and non-gated chest CTA, and cardiac CT.
  • Cover Level 1 and Level 2 trauma centers along with multiple EDs, outpatient and inpatient environments for a wide variety of pathology
  • Perform and assist with CT guided thoracic procedures including biopsy, ablation, and chest tube insertion.
  • Attend and present at multispecialty conferences
  • Fellow will help supervise and teach the residents and medical students
  • Emphasis is placed on quality in technical performance and interpretation

MR

  • A total of 9 MRI magnets are used for clinical work at our various locations in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Thoracic MRI and MRA, and cardiac MRI

Plain film

  • Standard two view and portable chest radiography

Electives

  • Electives include Body Imaging, Neuroradiology, PET/CT, General Nuclear Medicine, Research, 3D Lab/Advanced post-processing, high risk OB ultrasound, mammography, and musculoskeletal imaging.

Research

  • Participation in research is encouraged but not required.
  • Presentation of an abstract or poster at a national meeting will be financially supported.

Conferences

  • Multiple multidisciplinary conferences on a weekly, bi-weekly and monthly basis for participation and education exist including: thoracic oncology (weekly), esophageal (weekly), TAVR (weekly), CTEPH (monthly), and pulmonary (monthly).
  • Peer review publications and presentations will be supported by the department
  • Fellow is encouraged to join the Society of Thoracic Radiology and attend the annual conference.

Surgical

  • Fellows are encouraged to observe multiple cardiothoracic surgical procedures to better understand surgical indications, technique, and complications.
  • Surgical opportunities include TAVR, open coronary bypass, open valve replacement, heart transplant, VATS wedge resection/segmentectomy/lobectomy, pneumonectomy, mediastinoscopy, and bronchoscopy with navigational guidance and endobronchial US
