Program Overview

The Transitional Year Program at West Penn is sponsored by the Department of Medicine, with participation by the departments of Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Radiology, Surgery, and others.

Eight months of meaningful patient care are required for residents choosing the Transitional Year Program. This must include the following rotations:

The resident may choose electives from the following list:

  • Obstetrics/Gynecology

  • Rheumatology
  • Surgery
