Hello! And welcome to the AP/CP residency program here at Allegheny General Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network. The network is comprised of several smaller community hospitals throughout western Pennsylvania. Allegheny General Hospital and West Penn Hospital serve as the two largest hospitals of the network, tertiary level teaching hospitals with academic affiliations with Drexel school of medicine. Our program is an integrated 4 year residency with balanced
anatomic and clinical pathology rotations. Our focus is on a well-rounded
resident training in all aspects of pathology. Residents here are exposed to a
wide variety of cases across all areas of pathology.
Department volumes continue to rise and average between 30,000-35,000 surgical specimens,18,500 GYN cytology cases, over 8,000 non-GYN cytology cases, and approximately 2,000 FNA’s. Autopsy numbers range between 50 to 100 per year. These numbers provide a solid combination of routine and challenging cases to learn from. Residents also rotate at West Penn hospital and gain exposure to interesting gynecologic-oncology cases.
With more than 17 faculty on site, the department has a diverse mix of subspecialty interests, levels of experience, and teaching styles. This combined with didactic lectures and direct one on one teaching, provide a unique learning
experience for our residents and fellows.
Our program currently has a compliment of 12 total residents. We are planning to accept 3 residents through the 2021 Match. Due to the current pandemic, all interviews will be conducted virtually.
