Massaro Construction Group and Other Local Organizations Donate N95 Protective Masks to AHN

Monday, March 23, 2020

PITTSBURGH, Pa – Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has received a generous donation of N95 protective masks from the Massaro Construction Group. The donation comes at a time when AHN and health care systems around the country are responding to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and as the number of COVID-19 cases being diagnosed in the western Pennsylvania region continues to increase.

“At a time like this, it really does take a village to meet the significant challenges we are facing as a health care industry,” said Cindy Hundorfean, AHN President and CEO. “Having enough personal protective equipment to make sure our dedicated caregivers are appropriately safeguarded during a pandemic response is one of our highest priorities, and we can’t thank Massaro and our community partners enough for their incredibly generous contribution to that cause.”

Turner Construction, Considine Biebel and Co., E.E. Austin and Son and the Robert Benjamin Wiley Community Charter School have also joined the Massaro Construction Group to generously donate supplies of N95 masks to AHN.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the Massaros and so many of our community partners. Their donation of N95 masks speaks volumes to our wonderful partnerships in the region and even more so, to their philanthropic leadership in the community,” said Allie Quick, AHN chief philanthropy officer.

N95 masks are respirators that are often used among both health care and construction professionals to protect them from exposure to toxins.  As health organizations respond to the COVID-19 pandemic around the world, the use of PPE like N95 masks help prevent the spread of the illness among health care workers.

“These times are unprecedented and therefore require our community to come together, pull resources and design a support system that plays a role in reducing potential risks associated with this pandemic,” said Steven Massaro, president of Massaro Construction Group. “We have a long-standing relationship with Allegheny Health Network and consider it an honor to be able to assist in its response to this pandemic.”

The Massaro Construction Group has played an integral role in AHN’s significant facility construction and expansion strategy over the past five years.
