Construction of New $35 Million Cancer & Imaging Center at Forbes Hospital Reaches Milestone with Completion of Structural Steel Framework
Monroeville, Pa. – The final steel beam completing the structural framework of Allegheny Health Network’s new Cancer and Imaging Center at Forbes Hospital was set in place today as progress continues on a state-of-the-art facility that will provide world-class care close to home for the residents of Monroeville and its neighboring communities. Construction of the new $35 million, 63,000 square-foot facility began in February, with an expected opening in early 2019.
“We are meeting all of our deadlines with the cancer center project, and are on target for our expected to opening in March 2019," said Mark Rubino, MD, Forbes Hospital President. “We greatly appreciate the community’s continuing support and excitement about this critically important new resource and everything else we are doing to further expand and enhance the scope of care we provide.”
The AHN Cancer Institute at Forbes Hospital is one component of a $225 million commitment by AHN and Highmark Health to expand access to leading edge cancer care in western PA.
Located alongside Route 48 (Haymaker Road) on the Forbes Hospital campus, the new center is less than a mile from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Route 376, and Route 22, providing easy access to patients not only from Monroeville but also Westmoreland County and all neighborhoods and suburbs located east of the city of Pittsburgh.
The Forbes cancer center is one of four AHN comprehensive community cancer centers currently under construction throughout the region, with others planned for Beaver, Butler and Erie Counties. The Network is also building a new academic cancer center at Allegheny General Hospital that will serve as the hub of the organization’s cancer research and complex cancer treatment programs, as well as its collaboration with the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins.
