AHN Offers Screening, Education for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

PITTSBURGH, PA – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to learn more about this disease that affects one in eight women in the United States, with an emphasis on prevention and early detection. Allegheny Health Network is offering several programs during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to the public.
AHN Pinkout Walk-In Mammograms
Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to noon and Thursday, Oct. 24, from 2-7 p.m. No appointment is needed, and light refreshments and giveaways will be offered. It must be at least 12 months since your last screening.
Locations on Oct. 5: AHN Outpatient Center at Waterworks Mall in Fox Chapel; Allegheny Valley Hospital, Bethel Park Health + Wellness Pavilion, Canonsburg Hospital, Forbes Hospital, Jefferson Hospital; West Penn Hospital Breast Center on the first floor of the Mellon Pavilion and Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion, Breast Center on Level 2; Saint Vincent Hospital Breast Imaging Center

Discussion on Breast Health, Genetics and Prevention Featuring AHN Experts
Learn more about understanding your risk of breast cancer with experts in genetic assessment, preventive screenings, diet and exercise. Speakers are D. Lawrence Wickerham, MD, Chief of Cancer Genetics and Prevention; Kyla Morphy, MGC, LCGC and Jackie Hoover, MS, LCGC, clinical genetic counselor; Rachel Harken, MS, RD, CSO, LDN, clinical dietitian, and Judith Schaad, PT, DPT, CWS, CT-LANA, physical therapist.

“Knock Out Cancer” Workout Celebrating Breast Cancer Survivors, Friends and Family
Saturday Oct. 12, registration from 9-9:30 a.m., workout from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at SHAPE Perform, 5877 Commerce St., Pittsburgh PA 15206. Angela Keleher, MD, Director of Breast Surgery, AHN Cancer Institute, will speak afterwards about breast health and wellness.
