AHN Launches Real-Time Remote Access to All Emergency and Urgent Care Wait Times

Friday, October 25, 2019

PITTSBURGH, PA (October 25, 2019) – Patients in need of emergency or urgent care can now check up-to-the-minute wait times at all Allegheny Health Network (AHN) emergency departments and urgent care centers thanks to Find Care Now, a service available at ahn.org and via desktop and mobile devices on MyChart.

AHN patients who use MyChart can also use the program to check in and enter basic demographic information while alerting the facility that they are on their way. Once patients mark themselves as “On the Way,” Bing Maps provides directions to the facility.  AHN is the first health system in the Pittsburgh area to offer patients real-time wait times for all emergency and urgent care facilities.

“At AHN, we are focused on providing patients with the best possible experience from start to finish,” said Robert White, MD, AHN’s Chief Medical Information Officer. “When patients are seeking emergency or urgent care, Find Care Now allows them to select the most convenient location with the shortest waiting time, helping them get the care they need as quickly as possible so they can resume their daily lives.”

He added that patients who are critically ill, such as those who suspect they are having a heart attack or stroke, or who are having difficulty breathing, should always call 911 or proceed to the closest emergency department.

Patients can access Find Care Now by visiting AHN.org/FindCareNow. MyChart users can also access Find Care Now via a dedicated link on the home page: mychart.ahn.org

AHN offers full-service emergency departments at Allegheny General, West Penn, Forbes, Allegheny Valley, Jefferson and Canonsburg hospitals in the Pittsburgh area, and at Saint Vincent and Westfield Memorial hospitals in the Erie region. Emergency departments are 24/7 operations designed for major injuries and illnesses that require immediate medical attention, including chest pain, stroke symptoms, difficulty breathing, uncontrolled breathing, head injuries, severe burns and broken bones.

Patients will also be able to use Find Care Now to access wait times at the emergency departments at AHN’s four soon-to-open neighborhood hospitals in Hempfield (November 2019), McCandless (December 2019), Brentwood (January 2020) and Harmar (fall of 2020).

AHN Urgent Care centers are located in Braddock, Bellevue, and Saint Vincent East and West, Erie. Urgent care is considered appropriate for conditions that should be treated within 24 hours, but are not life threatening, such as strains and sprains, broken fingers or toes, infections, seasonal allergies, minor cuts and burns or dizziness.

AHN also offers same-day appointments with primary care practitioners and specialty physicians to patients who call 412.DOCTORS (412.362.8677) before 11 a.m. Monday – Friday. Those who call after 11 a.m. or over the weekend will be scheduled for the next available appointment.
