Thursday, December 5, 2019

– AHN Saint Vincent Hospital, part of the Allegheny Health Network, held its 2019 Annual Meeting today, reviewing the many milestone accomplishments of the hospital during the past year.  The meeting was hosted by Cynthia Hundorfean, President and CEO of Allegheny Health Network, Chris Clark, DO, MHA, President of Saint Vincent and Jason Roeback, Saint Vincent’s Chief Operating Officer.  In attendance were Saint Vincent officials, members of the hospital clinical staff, and community leaders.

“We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished on behalf of the Erie community in 2019,” said Dr. Clark. “With the support of Allegheny Health Network and Highmark Health, we are creating a new era in healthcare for the northwest Pennsylvania region – not just in bricks and mortar, but in truly meaningful programs designed to provide patients the best possible experience and quality of care.”

The hospital reported that 2019 patient volumes are significantly higher year over year, with births up 21%, primary care visits up 12%, specialist visits up 11%, urgent care visits up 7%, and total discharges and observations up 6%.  Same Day appointments, which Saint Vincent launched in 2018, rose 33% in 2019.

In addition, hospital officials reported a landmark year in facility and program investments,  reviewing the cascade of new facilities that opened this year,  including Saint Vincent’s  Health + Wellness Pavilion, East Side, the AHN Women and Infants Center on the hospital’s fifth floor, the new AHN Allied Urology at Saint Vincent practice, and two new buildings – the AHN Saint Vincent Emergency Department and OR Suites and the AHN Cancer Institute at Saint Vincent.

Technological advancements introduced to the Erie region by Saint Vincent and its clinical teams in 2019 included:

Upgraded telemetry monitoring system

The Watchman Device for patients with atrial fibrillation

Cochlear Implants for hearing restoration

The AlterG Anti-Gravity treadmill for injury rehabilitation located at both of the Health and Wellness pavilions

The hospital also added 30 new physicians in 2019, including specialists in general surgery, internal medicine, family medicine, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics and neonatology,  emergency medicine, pulmonology and critical care, anesthesiology, bariatric surgery, palliative care, medical and radiation oncology, endocrinology, and continues recruiting for specialties such as dermatology, gastroenterology and urology.

2019 was a good year for Saint Vincent for accolades, with the hospital rated No. 1 in Erie for Medical Excellence in Cancer Care, Heart Attack Treatment, and Major Neuro-Surgery, and No. 1 in Erie for Patient Safety in Cancer Care, Heart Failure Treatment, Major Neurosurgery, and Trauma Care by CareChex. It has also earned the Blue Distinction® Center+ award for cardiac care, knee and hip replacement, maternity care, and spine surgery from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, The Hospital Association of Pennsylvania Excellence in Patient Safety Award, and the 2020 Erie’s Choice Award for best hospital.
