Saint Vincent Brings Comprehensive Services for Women Together Under One Roof
Tuesday, December 4, 2018
Officials from Saint Vincent, Allegheny Health Network and Highmark Health gathered today to celebrate the opening of the new Saint Vincent Women’s Center and the AHN Women’s Institute at Saint Vincent, a facility that will integrate many of Saint Vincent’s services for women in one convenient location at the Hardner Building on Myrtle Street.
Formerly located in the professional building on West 24th Street, the new Saint Vincent Women’s Center will provide mammography services, 3D breast tomosynthesis, high resolution tomosynthesis and breast ultrasound services. A team of nurse navigators will provide close personalized care for women at the Center. The 4,500 square-foot facility features two 3D mammography rooms and two ultrasound rooms as well as bone densitometry services.
“We have designed every element of our new facility to be patient centered and family friendly, with an emphasis on comfort, convenience and expedited, high-quality care in a center with state-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities, ” said Allan Klapper, MD, system chair for the Allegheny Health Network Women and Children’s Institute.
The new Women’s Center offers access to Erie’s only automated breast ultrasound technology (ABUS.) This technology, which uses sound waves instead of radiation to create 3D ultrasound images of breast tissue, is designed to help doctors more accurately detect cancer in women with dense breasts.
The Saint Vincent Women’s Center is staffed by fellowship-trained women’s imaging radiologists who also offer access to a newer and faster stereotactic biopsy process that allows the patient to more comfortably sit upright during the procedure.
The adjacent AHN Women’s Institute at Saint Vincent is a 5,000 square foot facility with eight exam rooms, an ultrasound room and procedure room. The Institute provides access to Erie’s only fellowship-trained breast surgeon, Jennifer Saldanha, MD, genetic counselor Jacqueline Hoover, gynecologic oncologist John McBroom, MD, and plastic surgeon and breast reconstruction specialist Timothy Germain, MD. Women’s rehabilitation services will join the practice later this year, including certified lymphedema and pelvic floor rehab physical therapists
“Saint Vincent is so pleased to be able to integrate all of the services for women in one location on the hospital campus,” said Saint Vincent President Chris Clark, DO. “Women who come to the Center for their care can expect a truly comprehensive team of medical experts and the most advanced technological capabilities for women’s diagnostic care available in the Erie area.”
The telephone number for the Saint Vincent Women’s Center remains the same at 814-452-5879. The phone for the Saint Vincent Women’s Institute is 814-879-6636.
