Saint Vincent Hospital Opens New Electrophysiology Lab for Patients with Heart Rhythm Disorders

ERIE, Pa. — Saint Vincent Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network, has opened a new Electrophysiology (EP) Lab, providing additional space and advanced technology for diagnosing and treating heart rhythm abnormalities.

The EP Lab focuses on evaluating the electrical function of the heart and treating various conditions on the spot. The lab provides diagnostic testing and treatment for patients with irregular heartbeats, including insertion of pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.

An irregular heartbeat can lead to heart complications, fatigue, congestive heart failure or stroke.

The new lab offers an advanced fixed fluoroscopy unit, which provides enhanced heart imaging quality. In addition, the new state-of-the-art integrated mapping system provides physicians with advanced tools to more quickly and accurately diagnose and treat patients.

The new lab, located in the ground floor of Saint Vincent Hospital, is 250 feet larger, with a new control room and a new equipment room. The lab has its own air-handling system and an uninterrupted power source to provide back-up electrical power in the event of a loss of power.
