Monday, April 8, 2019

PITTSBURGH – Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has named Elie Aoun, MD, MS, Division Chief of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. Dr. Aoun most recently served as Medical Director for the Division of Gastroenterology. He also serves as Medical Director for Clinical Access at AHN.

Appointed Medical Director of the AHN Division of Gastroenterology in 2013, Dr. Aoun was instrumental in developing the strategic vision for the AHN Center for Digestive Health. Today, the Center’s nationally recognized clinicians treat patients across a wide range of specialized programs, including celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology and liver transplant, nutrition services, advanced endoscopy, pelvic floor dysfunction, and pancreas/bile tract disorders. Additionally, the Division hosts one of the region’s most robust fellowship training programs, and is planning to launch a fourth-year advanced endoscopy fellowship next year.

As Medical Director for Clinical Access, Dr. Aoun has played an important role in the development and oversight of key AHN programs and services designed to enhance patient access to care, including same-day appointments for primary and specialty care, the Cancer Help Line and the 24/7 Nurse Line.

“Dr. Aoun is an extremely talented clinician and physician leader who has helped AHN advance its patient-centered vision and strategy – both within the Center for Digestive Health and across all of our clinical institutes. He is the ideal candidate for this important new role and we look forward to the continued success of AHN’s Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition under his guidance,” said Susan Manzi, MD, MPH, Chair, AHN Medicine Institute.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Aoun is a member of numerous state and national professional organizations in gastroenterology. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, including presentations at national and international meetings.

Dr. Aoun received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut and obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Research from the University of Pittsburgh. Before joining AHN in 2010, he completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship training in gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition in Pittsburgh.
