Allegheny Health Network Physician Receives Medical Award from National Kidney Foundation

Tuesday, May 15, 2018

The National Kidney Foundation of the Alleghenies recently honored Allegheny Health Network’s (AHN) Barbara Clark, MD, with the Gift of Life Medical Award for her extraordinary contributions to the field of nephrology. Dr. Clark received the award at the foundation’s annual Kidney Gift of Life Gala in Pittsburgh.

Dr. Clark has been a practicing physician with Allegheny General Hospital since 1997 and currently is on the staff in the hospital’s Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. She also serves as Medical Director of the DaVita Northside Dialysis Unit.

The Gift of Life award strives to recognize individuals who go above and beyond in the fields of nephrology or transplantation. In particular, the foundation presents the award to those who consistently align with its mission to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health and well-being of individuals affected by these diseases, and increase the number who benefit from transplantation by helping to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation.

“Dr. Clark is widely known as a highly-skilled physician and educator. She’s deeply committed to spending quality time with her patients and their families to help ensure they understand their conditions and recommended treatment plans,” said Susan Manzi, MD, MPH, Chair of the AHN Medicine Institute. “We’re thrilled that she has been honored with this award and recognized for her dedication to improving the health and well-being of patients with kidney diseases.”

Dr. Clark also plays an important role in helping educate and train the next generation of clinicians in the field of nephrology through AHN’s undergraduate and graduate academic partnerships with the Drexel University College of Medicine and Temple University School of Medicine.

An active member of the local medical community, Dr. Clark has spent six years on the medical advisory board and general board of the National Kidney Foundation of the Alleghenies.

“Dr. Clark truly understands how important and special it is for physicians to give back to the communities in which they live and work,” said Erin Tuladzieck, Executive Director of the National Kidney Foundation. “Last year, she served as co-chair for the annual gala, and it was one of our foundation’s most successful events of 2017. We’re proud to present her with this award, as we know she deserves to be among the leading physicians who have been recognized for their innovations and impact on the kidney community.”
