Tuesday, June 12, 2018

Fans will have the opportunity to play catch on the field at PNC Park, receive complimentary tickets to the afternoon game, and a chance to win autographed merchandise. The top three fundraisers will have an exclusive opportunity to meet players Harrison, Cervelli, or Taillon.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- On Father’s Day each year, Major League Baseball sends an important message to millions by raising awareness for prostate cancer, and raising funds for research and care.

This year, Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has partnered with the Pittsburgh Pirates to participate in this annual effort by hosting a fundraising and awareness event for prostate cancer on Father’s Day, June 17 inside PNC Park.

Participants will help AHN and the Pirates raise awareness around the importance of catching prostate cancer early, and raise money for cancer care at the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute.

“The Pirates and our players are proud to partner with AHN to help raise awareness among our fans of the importance of screening for prostate cancer, and what better way to do that than coming together to play catch on the field at PNC Park on Father’s Day,” said Frank Coonelly, president, Pittsburgh Pirates.

Prostate cancer is the third most common type of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death among men in the United States.

“Awareness is absolutely critical for the best outcomes in these cases because early detection gives men the best chance for a cure,” said David Parda, MD, chair, Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute. “This Father’s Day, we hope to encourage more men to become informed about screenings, risk factors, and symptoms of prostate cancer, so we can catch these cases earlier and achieve those best outcomes.”

Fundraisers committed to at least $250 will have the opportunity to play catch on the field at PNC Park, and will receive giveaways and four complimentary tickets to watch the Pirates vs. Reds at 1:35 PM.

Those who raise additional funds will have the chance to win autographed Pittsburgh Pirates merchandise and the top three fundraisers will win an exclusive opportunity to meet Josh Harrison, Francisco Cervelli or Jameson Taillon.
