AHN Names Thomas Krivak, MD, Director of Gynecologic Oncology

Friday, July 27, 2018

PITTSBURGH, Pa  -  Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has appointed Thomas C. Krivak, MD, director of the Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology for the AHN Women and Children Institute and the AHN Cancer Institute.

Dr. Krivak has been affiliated with AHN since 2013, when he joined the network as director of clinical research in gynecologic oncology, and associate director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, after spending nearly a decade as a staff physician and researcher at UPMC Magee Womens Hospital.

“Dr. Krivak is uniquely qualified for this role,” said Allan S. Klapper, MD, president, Wexford Hospital and chair, AHN Women and Children Institute. “He is an outstanding surgical oncologist and a highly accomplished cancer researcher who has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He provides exceptional care to his patients and their families, some of whom have expressed their gratitude by helping supporting AHN’s cancer programs and research efforts.”

Over the past four years, Dr. Krivak has helped raise more than $500,000 for research into ovarian and other gynecologic cancers at AHN.

“Dr. Krivak exemplifies the values of the AHN Cancer Institute, as a clinician who continuously strives to advance the standards of cancer treatment while never losing sight of the compassionate, personalized care that all patients deserve,” said David Parda, MD, Chair, AHN Cancer Institute. “He is an invaluable member of our cancer leadership team and we look forward to the continuing excellence of our surgical oncology program under his direction.”

Dr. Krivak earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Toledo and his medical degree from The Ohio State College of Medicine. He completed a post-graduate obstetrics and gynecology internship and residency at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California, and fellowships at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Cancer Institute's Department of Cell Biology.

His many professional affiliations include memberships in the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He also sits on the editorial boards of "Gynecologic Oncology" and "Gynecologic Oncology Case Reports."

At AHN Cancer Institute, patients with gynecologic cancers have access to the most advanced technologies and minimally invasive techniques available, as well as the latest  immunotherapies and clinical trials, molecular testing that pinpoints which treatment will work best for each individual patient, and sophisticated newer treatments such as HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.) Patients meet with their entire care team within three days of diagnosis, and are assigned a navigator to provide logistical and emotional support.
