Expecting Moms Can “Meet Dr. Right” at Jefferson Hospital on Sept. 12
Friday, August 25, 2017
JEFFERSON HILLS, Pa. – For expecting moms, finding the right doctors and hospital for prenatal care and delivery is an important decision, but it shouldn’t have to be stressful.
That’s why Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Allegheny Health Network (AHN) are teaming up for a free “Meet Dr. Right” event on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Jefferson Hospital, 565 Coal Valley Road, Jefferson Hills.
Meet Dr. Right events are sponsored by Highmark and provide attendees with the opportunity to meet, mingle and make appointments with physicians from Allegheny Health Network and other community practices that are accepting new patients.
At the Jefferson Hospital event, new and soon-to-be moms can meet the hospital’s Ob/Gyns, pediatricians, lactation counselors, midwives, OB anesthesiologists and more.
“With this event, our goal is to provide new and expecting moms with information on the importance of quality health care for themselves and their baby – all in one place and at one time,” said Charles DeShazer, MD, chief medical officer for Highmark.
Attendees can tour Jefferson Hospital’s birthing suites, meet midwives, talk with baby product vendors and take advantage of free health screenings.
In November 2014, at a time when many labor and delivery centers were closing doors, Jefferson Hospital opened the first new labor and delivery unit in the Pittsburgh region in 34 years. In less than three years, the obstetrics unit at Jefferson Hospital has become the premier birthing center for women in the South Hills and Monongahela Valley regions of Pittsburgh, delivering more than 1,000 babies annually.
The unit provides state-of-the-art Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) suites designed for women’s comfort, where the entire birth process takes place. Each LDRP is fully equipped with a birthing bed, bedside fetal monitoring equipment, medical gases, infant warmer, and equipment needed for infant resuscitation and stabilization. Centralized fetal monitoring provides constant surveillance of the mother and baby. The unit also features a Level II (continuing care) nursery for special needs, two dedicated cesarean-section rooms, 24/7 obstetric anesthesia and newborn services, numerous patient services and amenities, the latest in infant security technology and an Austin’s Playroom. Jefferson Hospital is also home to AHN Midwives, the South Hills’ only hospital-based midwife program.
“We encourage expecting moms to come out to this event, even if they aren’t Allegheny Health Network patients,” said Dr. DeShazer. “The health-related activities and screenings will certainly benefit any soon-to-be mom.”
Individuals interested in attending the free event should visit www.meet-dr-right.com or call 1-855-856-0319 to register in advance.
