AHN, Allegheny County Health Department to Host a Two-Day, Large-Scale COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic

This Friday and Saturday, AHN will administer the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine to a total of 13,000 western Pennsylvanians

PITTSBURGH – Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and the Allegheny County Health Department, in collaboration with Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and the Pennsylvania National Guard, will partner this Friday and Saturday to vaccinate 13,000 individuals who fall within the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Phases 1A and 1B. This two-day clinic, held at Next Tier Connect @ Pittsburgh East – an office building and campus nearby AHN’s Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, will be the largest in the region to date to supply the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine.

The AHN clinic at Next Tier Connect (4350 Northern Pike) is open only to those who have pre-registered to attend and receive the vaccine. Those interested in receiving the vaccine can visit AHN.org/coronavirus or call 412-DOCTORS to schedule an appointment. No walk-ins to the clinics will be accepted.

As part of AHN’s ongoing efforts to reach as many individuals in the region who are eligible to receive the vaccine as quickly as possible, the network is committed to also providing convenient access. Overall, AHN has distributed more than 250,000 doses at various mass vaccination sites across western Pennsylvania including PNC Park, CCAC South Campus, Monroeville Convention Center, DICK’S Sporting Goods’ corporate office in Coraopolis, Erie Insurance Arena in Erie, Pa. and Buhl Recreation Center in Sharon, Pa.

AHN also continues to hold hospital-based vaccine clinics across its footprint, as well as community-based clinics at local churches and other sites. Tomorrow, the network will vaccinate 1,000 individuals at the Braddock Greater Valley Community Center. Next Monday, AHN will return to Next Tier Connect to provide a first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to approximately 6,000 people.

“Over the course of the last year, we have worked very closely with Dr. Bogen and the Allegheny County Health Department to help see our region’s residents through this pandemic as safely as possible. Now, in what we are hopeful will be the final phase of our pandemic response, we are extremely pleased to partner with the county to provide a large number of people in our community with access to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine,” said Imran Qadeer, MD, chief medical officer, Allegheny General Hospital, and a leader of AHN’s COVID vaccination operations.

AHN has also placed a priority on ensuring equitable distribution of the vaccine based on western Pennsylvania’s population demographics. At every mass vaccination event, efforts are made to schedule appropriate numbers of people who are of marginalized populations and/or live in underserved communities.

The collaboration with PEMA and the National Guard for the clinics this Friday and Saturday was coordinated by Allegheny County Emergency Services.

“The partnership between the Health Department and our major health systems has made all of the difference in controlling the spread of the virus and getting the vaccine out to those in our community who are most at need,” said County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. “We are grateful to AHN and its employees, partners and volunteers for working with us to get more shots in arms through these clinics.”

The network is continuing to hold appointment-only vaccination clinics for the time being. Individuals may schedule now to receive the vaccine at an AHN clinic for when they are eligible based on the state Department of Health’s vaccine rollout plan. AHN MyChart users can log in to their account to schedule. All others who meet the eligibility criteria may schedule using the network’s online scheduler (ahn.org/coronavirus/vaccine) or by calling 412-DOCTORS.
