AHN Names Longtime EMS Leader Robert Twaddle Vice President, Prehospital Services

Allegheny Health Network today announced the appointment of Robert Twaddle as Vice President of Prehospital Care Services.  Twaddle succeeds Bob McCaughan, who is retiring as of Feb. 2.

A longtime leader in the regional EMS community, Twaddle has spent the last five years as director of Prehospital Care Services for AHN, and in that capacity has helped lead AHN’s Prehospital Care Coordinators and Emergency Medicine physicians in providing clinical oversight to more than 90 affiliated EMS agencies.  He played a key role in the development of the AHN Mobile Integrated Health and Community Paramedic Program and in acclimating local EMS providers to AHN’s new neighborhood hospitals.

He joined AHN in 2007 as an emergency medicine outreach representative for Allegheny General Hospital and LifeFlight.

Twaddle earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Penn State University. He is currently pursuing an EdD in Leadership and Learning in Organizations. From 1999 to 2007 he was a USN Hospital Corpsman, Petty Officer 2nd Class, in the U.S. Navy Reserves, providing front-line medical support to the First Marine Division during deployment for Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received several awards for his service to the Nation, including the US Navy National Defense Service Medal.

“A widely respected EMS leader in our community, Robert Twaddle has deep familiarity with the needs and expectations of our providers, our EMS partners, and most importantly, the many patients and communities we serve,” said Tom Campbell, MD, Chair, AHN Emergency Medicine Institute. “We look forward to the continuing growth and great success of our prehospital care services under his leadership.”

“We also extend our thanks to Bob McCaughan for his outstanding work on behalf of AHN and the entire western Pennsylvania region over the past four decades,” Dr. Campbell said. “His vision and leadership have helped make  our community a better, safer place to live.”
