AHN Osteoporosis and Fragility Fracture Clinic Opens in West Mifflin

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has further extended the reach of its orthopaedic program with the recent opening of the AHN Osteoporosis and Fragility Fracture Clinic at 2027 Lebanon Church Road in West Mifflin. The Clinic, located at the AHN outpatient site, offers a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach for patients suffering primarily from bone density issues resulting from osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a disease in which the density and quality of the bone are reduced; for people living with osteoporosis, bone loss will outpace the growth of new bone increasing the risk for fractures and eventually, decreased mobility. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, one in two women and one in four men aged fifty years and over are at the most risk for osteoporotic fracture, which is typically the first warning sign of the disease.

Across Allegheny County, nearly 20 percent of the population is over 65 years old and the demographic of seniors continues to outpace the country year over year. Orthopaedic surgeons David Stapor, MD, and Zachary Sisko, MD, are the lead physicians at the AHN Osteoporosis and Fragility Fracture Clinic.

“In our region, we have a high number of older adults who will sustain an osteoporosis-related fracture,” said Dr. Stapor. “At the Osteoporosis and Fragility Fracture Clinic, patients will receive comprehensive care that will include therapeutic measures and direction on lifestyle changes that increase mobility, strengthen bones and help patients gain more independence.”

The opening of the West Mifflin location complements the Clinic’s additional location at the AHN Sports Complex at Cool Springs in Bethel Park, which opened earlier this year. Across both clinics, patients can expect to receive a wide range of services including:

  • On-site medication injections and infusions
  • Bone density screenings
  • Osteoporosis support group meetings
  • Lifestyle and nutrition counseling
  • Collaboration with physical therapy for balance and gait training
  • Certified professionals in DEXA scan interpretation and fracture liaison service

The Osteoporosis and Fragility Fracture Clinic, a new division under the Orthopaedic Institute, enhances the long list of services already offered throughout the region, including athletic trainer services, physical therapy, orthopaedic and sports injury treatment, pediatric orthopaedics, primary care sports medicine, rehabilitation services, sports medicine and performance services, and strength training services.

Both office visits and video visits with experts at the Osteoporosis and Fragility Fracture Clinic are available. To learn more, call (412) 267-6200 or visit ahn.org/osteoporosis.
