Allegheny Health Network Announces Appointment of David Tupponce, MD, MMM, FACHE, as President of AHN Grove City

GROVE CITY, PA -- Allegheny Health Network (AHN) today announced the appointment of David Tupponce, MD, MMM, FACHE as President of Grove City Medical Center. He will assume his new role immediately, succeeding Allan Klapper, MD, who has served as the hospital’s interim President since August 2020 while the search for a permanent leader was conducted.

Dr. Tupponce comes to AHN with an extensive clinical and administrative background. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President of Central Maine Healthcare and President of Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine, a 234-bed acute care hospital. During his tenure at CMH and CMMC, Dr. Tupponce led the implementation of substantial cost saving initiatives for the organization, while also driving the significant growth of its physician group and the success of the hospital’s quality program.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Tupponce join our team of strong clinician leaders as president of AHN Grove City,” said Cynthia Hundorfean, AHN’s President and CEO. “With his impressive credentials and experience in delivering high-quality community-based healthcare, we feel he is the ideal leader to help further develop and implement our strategy for growth and success in meeting the health needs of those who live in Grove City and the greater Mercer County region.”

AHN Grove City has a rich history and a tradition of providing patient-focused care and service to the area for over 40 years. The result of a merger between two smaller community hospitals, both of which were founded in the early 1900s, the hospital became part of AHN in January 2020, providing the network with a critical new access point between its hospitals in the Pittsburgh region and Erie.  AHN is now comprised of 13 hospitals and hundreds of additional clinical locations across western Pennsylvania.

With Dr. Tupponce’s appointment, each of AHN’s eight western Pennsylvania-based acute care hospitals is now overseen by a physician President.  AHN is comprised of 13 hospitals in total. The organization’s clinician-led leadership structure has resulted in higher quality, patient-centered care across its facilities and greatly enhanced physician relations.

Dr. Tupponce earned his medical degree from George Washington University and a Master of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University. He was a family medicine chief resident at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and his clinical background includes service as a hospitalist and family practice physician.

Before joining Central Maine, Dr. Tupponce was CEO of Tenet Healthcare’s Abrazo Scottsdale Campus, a 120-bed acute-care hospital in central Arizona. Prior to Tenet, Dr. Tupponce was Chief Medical Officer and then Chief Executive Officer of Paradise Valley Hospital, part of Vanguard Health in Phoenix, Arizona..
