Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute Names Cleveland Clinic Physician Chirag Shah, MD, as New Chair of Radiation Oncology

PITTSBURGH – Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cancer Institute today announced the appointment of Chirag Shah, MD, as Chair of its Department of Radiation Oncology, effective January 1, 2025. Dr. Shah comes to Pittsburgh from Cleveland Clinic and brings extensive experience and a distinguished career in radiation oncology to this new leadership role.

Dr. Shah is a highly accomplished physician leader with a proven track record of excellence in clinical care, research, and education. His expertise spans a wide range of radiation oncology techniques and technologies, with a particular focus on breast cancer, sarcoma, and lymphedema prevention.

Before joining AHN, Dr. Shah previously served as the Director of Clinical Research, Director of Breast Radiation Oncology, and Director of Strategic Growth in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic. He also served as Co-Director of the Comprehensive Breast Program at the Cleveland Clinic. He has over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has delivered dozens of presentations at national and international conferences.

Most recently, he was named to Cleveland Magazine’s Best Doctors list in 2023 and 2024 and received the Presidential Award from the American Brachytherapy Society in 2023.

Dr. Shah received his bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University and his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University. He completed his internship and residency at William Beaumont Hospital and held positions at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and Summa Health Systems in Akron, Ohio. He also is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology where he chairs the national workforce committee and the American Brachytherapy Society.
