How to Help Prevent a Stroke in 3 Steps

A stroke is a medical emergency caused by the sudden interruption or reduction of blood flow to the brain. There are several different types of strokes, but they’re all caused by either blood clots or bleeding in the brain.

Strokes are the fifth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the leading cause of long-term disability, but up to 80% of them could be prevented by making lifestyle changes and managing chronic health conditions.* It’s important to know whether you’re at risk for a stroke and take steps now to improve your health so you can protect yourself from having a stroke in the future.

See your doctor
