Cardiac Rehabilitation

AHN Cardiac Rehabilitation Outpatient Program

Cardiac Rehabilitation at Allegheny Health Network offers each patient an individualized treatment plan, including evaluation and instruction on physical activity, nutrition, stress management, and other health related areas. Patients who have suffered a heart attack or are being treated for heart disease must learn to make significant lifestyle changes.

Our staff of critical care trained nurses and exercise physiologists will provide rehabilitation and secondary prevention services in a safe, monitored environment for patients with the following diagnoses:

  • Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
  • Valve repair and replacement
  • Heart attack
  • Stable angina
  • Post PTCA procedure
  • Post coronary stent procedure
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • Pacemaker/ AICD insertion
  • Heart transplantation and VADs

Our goal is to guide you toward wellness and provide the tools you need to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. During each exercise session, your blood pressure, heart rhythm, and oxygen saturation levels are closely monitored to ensure an optimal experience and a safe return to daily activities. Individual education from our rehabilitation staff helps guide you through a successful transition to a heart-healthy, active life.

The benefits from the program are maximized through a professional staff of registered nurses, clinical exercise physiologists, registered dieticians, and behavioral health specialists, working closely with your cardiologist to provide feedback about your progress..

Cardiac Rehabilitation Inpatient Program

Our cardiac rehabilitation inpatient program includes physical reconditioning, risk factor modification, education, and counseling. The service is designed to limit the physiological and psychological effects of cardiovascular and pulmonary illness, reduce hospital readmission, and control and improve symptoms and the disease process. Inpatient cardiac rehabilitation is often provided to patients with cardiac and pulmonary disease, but we also offer our services to those who have had minimally invasive or open heart surgery, mechanical circulatory support devices, heart transplant and lung surgeries.

We offer a comprehensive, individualized exercise and education treatment plan for those with heart disease or who have undergone invasive cardiac treatments, including:

  • Coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Valve repair/replacement
  • Angioplasty or stent placement
  • Heart transplant
