Women's Heart Center
Allegheny Health Network Women's Heart Center
At the forefront of women’s cardiac care
The Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Women’s Heart Center is a one-of-a-kind resource in the Pittsburgh area for helping women prevent and treat heart disease. Our compassionate cardiovascular team uses the latest techniques and is at the forefront of medical research and technology.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in American women. It kills almost twice as many women as all forms of cancer combined. It is estimated that one in two women eventually die of a heart attack or stroke.
Know the risk factors
Many women are not aware that they are at risk for developing a cardiovascular disease. They often experience fewer and different symptoms than men and don’t realize they need to seek medical care.
By understanding the risk factors and symptoms of heart disease — and visiting your doctor regularly — you can take important steps toward heart health. If you have several of these risk factors, your primary care physician may recommend an evaluation at the AHN Women’s Heart Center.
Women’s risk factors include:
- Taking birth control pills
- Family history
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- High triglycerides
- Metabolic syndrome
- Pregnancy combined with high blood pressure
