Stroke Care at Saint Vincent Hospital

Saint Vincent Hospital, a part of the Allegheny Health Network, is certified by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center since 2007. The designation applies to hospital-based stroke programs that meet the Joint Commission’s stringent standards for providing quality stroke care that consistently leads to better patient outcomes.

The Joint Commission’s thorough approach to evaluating disease management programs affords the staff at Saint Vincent Hospital Hospital with opportunities to continuously improve their skills and knowledge.  The Primary Stroke Center designation promotes a culture of excellence at the hospital and gives the community Saint Vincent Hospital serves confidence in the stroke care quality they receive.

The Saint Vincent Stroke Support Group meets the second Tuesday of the month from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Saint Vincent Hospital Occupational Therapy Room, at  232 West 25th Street, Erie, PA.  Park in the ramp or in the lot across from the Rehab Lobby entrance.  Stroke survivors, family members, and caregivers are welcome to attend.   The support group’s logo is Determination: Overpowering our strokes.  Meetings may include a speaker, general discussion, or other activity.  For more information, please call Stroke Coordinator Melanie Henderson at 814-449-9919 or leave a message for more information.

Saint Vincent Hospital was most recently recognized with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Achievement Award in 2017.  Hospitals receiving Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Achievement Award have reached an aggressive goal of treating stroke patients with 85 percent or higher compliance to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for 24 consecutive months.  In addition, those hospitals have demonstrated 75 percent compliance to five out of eight stroke quality measures during the most recent 12-month period.
