Screening Tests Help Women Detect Health Problems Early

Women can stay healthier at any age by having regular screening tests. Screening tests can detect many diseases before they cause symptoms. Here is a list of screening tests often advised for women, depending on age and other risk factors:

  • Blood pressure measurement (high blood pressure is a risk for heart disease, stroke, and other disorders; low blood pressure can also be a problem)
  • Breast cancer screening (mammogram)
  • Cervical cancer screening (Pap test)
  • Chlamydia test
  • Cholesterol test
  • Colorectal cancer screening (colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, fecal occult blood test, digital rectal exam)
  • Diabetes screening (blood glucose level)
  • Gonorrhea test
  • HIV test
  • Osteoporosis (bone mineral density test)
  • Syphilis test

Check with your doctor about which screening tests are advised for you. Also, check with your insurance provider about which tests your plan will cover.
