Basic Dysthymia Course

The purpose of this course is to teach knowledge and critical thinking skills to the hospital staff who monitor, measure, and treat cardiac rhythms.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this course, the successful student will:

  • Discuss properties of electrophysiology and conduction
  • Describe the components of the cardiac cycle
  • Describe basic monitoring systems and lead placement
  • Identify the process for measurements
  • Interpret causes, treatments and measurements for
    • Sinus Rhythms
    • Atrial Rhythms
    • Junctional Rhythms
    • Heart Blocks
    • Ventricular rhythms
  • Describe pacemaker components and concepts
  • Discuss special considerations in dysrhythmia interpretation
    • QT Intervals
    • Bundle Branch Blocks

Expected outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the learner will:

  • Identify and measure cardiac rhytms
  • Demonstrate proper lead placement and cardiac monitoring on a patient

Audience

  • All registered nurses or other hospital staff who have the responsibility to interpret measure and treat cardiac arrhythmias as part of their job duties within Allegheny Health Network
