Leadership at West Penn Hospital

Anthony X. Baroni, DO, is the chief medical officer of West Penn Hospital.

Dr. Baroni, a hospitalist, has been affiliated with AHN since 2001, when he joined AHN Allegheny General Hospital and the former AHN Suburban Hospital as an attending physician. Over the last two decades, he has served in a variety of network and academic leadership roles, primarily at WPH.

Previously, he served as the medical site director for the WPH Hospitalist Program, associate program director for the combined AGH and WPH Hospitalist Program, the medical director of the WPH Observation Unit, as an AHN and WPH Physician Advisor, and co-medical director of the WPH stroke program.

He is also an associate professor of Internal Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine, which has a clinical campus at AHN, and a teaching attending physician at WPH and AGH.

Dr. Baroni earned his undergraduate pharmacy degree from the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, and his degree in osteopathic medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He completed his residency in internal medicine at West Penn and is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Julie Mazur (MHA-MBA, BSN) is the Chief Nursing Officer of AHN West Penn Hospital. A seasoned nurse leader, Ms. Mazur has broad management experience across various health care units, including med-surg, to labor & delivery, and perioperative/OP Services. Since 2020, Ms. Mazur has been the director of Preoperative and Cardiac Services at West Penn Hospital.

In her current role, Ms. Mazur has proven to be a transformational, transparent leader who promotes fair and just culture.

She was the recipient of the AHN Leadership Award for Perioperative Services in 2022.

Ms. Mazur received her BSN from Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, in 1993 and graduated with her Master’s in Health Care Administration (MBA) from South University in Georgia 2019.

Kelly Herrera is the Chief Financial Officer at West Penn Hospital. She has been a part of the AHN family since 2016.

Prior to her current role, Kelly has held various roles within the network, including Director of Finance for the Cardiovascular Institute, and her most recent role as Director of Finance for Allegheny General Hospital. She has also held roles in finance analytics as well as Management for Perioperative Business Operations for both Jefferson and Canonsburg Hospitals.

She also currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer at Allegheny General Hospital.

Kelly has worked in healthcare for 16 years and attended the University of Pittsburgh, Katz College of Business Administration.
