How to apply
The AHN Spine Surgery Fellowship is a non-ACGME-accredited fellowship that participates in the SF Match administered by the North American Spine Society (NASS). All applications must be submitted through the SF Match Central Application Service. We do not accept applications outside the match.
Eligibility
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited orthopaedic surgery or neurological surgery residency by the start of fellowship.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Eligibility to be credentialed by Allegheny Health Network.
Required application materials
- Completed SF Match application
- Personal statement
- Curriculum vitae
- Three letters of recommendation, including one from your residency program director
- USMLE / COMLEX score reports
- Medical school transcript
- Photograph (for identification only)
Timeline — 2026–2027 SF Match cycle
- Applications: Submitted through the SF Match Central Application Service; registration for the cycle opens in 2026.
- Interviews: Fall 2026. AHN conducts interviews on a small number of designated dates.
- Rank order lists due: April 6, 2027, 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Pacific Time.
- Match Day: April 13, 2027 (results released through SF Match).
- Fellowship begins: August 2028.
- Dates follow the SF Match Spine Surgery calendar and are confirmed each cycle on the SF Match website.
Interviews
Interview format and dates are confirmed each year by the program coordinator following the SF Match opening. Interview days include time with the Program Director, core faculty, the current fellow, and the program coordinator. Hospital tours and informal time with the team are part of every interview day.
