About the program

Family Medicine Residents

Welcome to Forbes Family Medicine Residency Program.
At Forbes Family Medicine, we care deeply about our patients and each other. A strong interdisciplinary team is central to the work we do; we strive to create a working and learning environment in which all team members feel supported. We are committed to providing high-quality care that meets our patients where they are. It is important to us that our patients feel respected and heard, regardless of their background or identity. Through our passion for the education, we empower our patients and raise our students and residents to their full potential.

Our job is to take great care of patients as we help you develop into the caring, comprehensive, innovative family physician leader you want to be. Forbes Family Medicine was established as an unopposed residency in 1978, and continues to be the only residency based at Allegheny Health Network’s Forbes Hospital. Located in the eastern suburbs, Forbes is the only training hospital in Pittsburgh where you get clinical experience in all aspects of family medicine, including OB and peds and inpatient pediatrics, in one location.

Forbes became dually accredited in 2009, and achieved osteopathic recognition status in 2018. In addition to an active family-centered maternity care program, our residency emphasizes community outreach, leadership development, integrating medical and behavioral health, and comprehensive programs in sports medicine, LGBTQ care, correctional health, and integrated medication for opioid use disorder.
