Types of head and neck cancers

Most head and neck cancers develop from malignant tumors found near the base of the skull, eye sockets, throat, larynx, nose, sinuses, and mouth. Our experienced team of surgeons is adept at diagnosing head and neck cancer quickly and accurately.

Types of head and neck tumors:

  • Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common kind of head and neck cancer. These tumors can grow in the upper digestive tract and the upper airway.
  • Salivary tumors start in the salivary glands (the glands that make saliva), located in your mouth and throat.
  • Soft tissue cancers of the head and neck, also called sarcomas, are relatively rare cancers. Head and neck sarcomas most often start in the paranasal sinuses and the neck.
  • Thyroid tumors: begin in the thyroid, a gland in the front part of the neck. For patients with thyroid cancer, our specialists provide expert, personalized care. Learn more about thyroid cancer treatment.
