What Makes Us Unique?

  • Strong procedural experience is emphasized from day one. Residents are expected to be proficient in lumbar punctures, joint injections, fluoroscopic
procedures, image guided biopsies, and more by the time they begin call.
  • With few fellows on a year to year basis, unlike many larger programs, residents perform most of the procedures on all rotations.
  • An engaged and busy IR department that works closely with multiple departments including Vascular Surgery, GI, Nephrology, Urology and Oncology.
  • As the official medical provider for the Pittsburgh Pirates, residents rotating through MSK are exposed to Sports Medicine studies and procedures at the highest level of athletic competition.
  • Night float system that eliminates random overnight call.
  • R1-R3 spend one month annually at UPMC Children’s Hospital, considered a  top program for pediatric radiology.
  • Close interaction with faculty. Residents and attendings often work one-on-one in a relaxed, collegial atmosphere.
  • Constant flow of medical students from multiple nearby medical schools allows endless opportunities for teaching.
  • A year-long integrated Physics curriculum taught by Telerad Physics.
  • Responsiveness of faculty to resident concerns.
  • Clinical research opportunities for those who are interested.
  • Our residents have fun in and out of the hospital and participate in extramural sports teams, as well as community service projects.
  • Pittsburgh’s transition from steel town to healthcare/tech hub/foodie city... has led to a diverse and dynamic city, ensuring that you never run out of things to do. Concert venues, professional sports, world-class museums, excellent parks, river side biking trails, downtown gallery crawls, affordable housing, and hundreds of restaurants and bars all make Pittsburgh one of the most exciting places to live.
