Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at Bethel Park Health + Wellness Pavilion

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is one of the most advanced treatments available for wounds that will not heal with standard therapies. Your wound care specialist may recommend hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) if you’ve tried other treatments for at least 30 days without success.

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment for all types of wounds

Physicians recommend HBOT for many types of wounds and medical conditions. At Bethel Park Health + Wellness Pavilion, we primarily use hyperbaric medicine to treat:

  • Diabetic wounds or ulcers on the feet and legs
  • Osteomyelitis, a type of bone infection
  • Wounds caused by soft tissue radiation damage

What to expect during hyperbaric treatment

Your exact treatment course depends on the type of wound you have and your overall health. Your wound care specialist plans how many weeks of HBOT you need to give your wound the best possible chance at healing completely.

In general, you will spend several hours inside our hyperbaric chamber. The air pressure inside the chamber is several times higher than air pressure outside. Also, the chamber maintains a higher concentration of oxygen compared to the outside environment.

Your safety is our top concern throughout your entire treatment course. For this reason, we provide special clothing for you to wear inside the hyperbaric chamber. This clothing reduces the risks of sparks from static electricity.

Many people find hyperbaric treatment relaxing and choose to nap or watch television during their session. While inside the chamber, our hyperbaric medicine nurses are readily available to address any concerns or provide any treatment you may need.
