Type 2 Diabetes

A type 2 diabetes diagnosis may come as a shock — but it can shake up your life in a good way. At the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Center for Diabetes and Endocrine Health (CDEH), we’re committed to delivering high-quality diabetes care that improves your health.

Our team includes specialists — from endocrinologists to educators — that have come together all for your care. They have the knowledge, tools, and resources to help you take control of your health and thrive with — or in some cases reverse — type 2 diabetes.

What is type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes happens when the pancreas can’t produce insulin (the hormone that regulates the body’s blood sugar levels) as well as it should. This can cause unhealthy changes in your blood sugar levels.

Type 2 diabetes often develops in middle age (40 or older). It can also affect younger adults and children. It’s the most common form of diabetes, affecting more than 90 percent of people with diabetes. As type 2 diabetes progresses, your pancreas makes less insulin. This causes you to not have enough insulin in your body.

Our team of diabetes specialists will be by your side as you learn to navigate type 2 diabetes management. Learn more about:
