  • Around-the-clock availability of pediatric experts in critical care and anesthesiology
  • Child life specialists and pediatric psychologists to help children cope with the trauma of a burn injury
  • A children’s playroom
  • School re-entry programs
  • Summer camp for burn-injured children
  • An outpatient burn clinic
  • Home health services through Healthcare@Home

Burn Center summer camp

Our free annual summer camp is open to children ages 7 to 17 who have been treated at the West Penn Burn Center. The five-day camp offers children with burn injuries a chance to meet and bond with children who have experienced similar injuries. Skilled professionals help the children build confidence while having fun.

Back-to-school program

Returning to school can be stressful for children with burn injuries. Our program eases this transition by:

  • Educating school personnel and classmates about a child’s burns and scars
  • Familiarizing school personnel and classmates about burn treatments, including rehabilitative garments or equipment that the returning student uses
  • Offering a forum for classmates to ask questions and express concerns
  • Teaching burn prevention
