Heather Ambrose serves as the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at Allegheny General Hospital. She brings to this role a wealth of experience in project management, nursing administration, and the pursuit of clinical excellence. As an award-winning and visionary leader, Dr. Ambrose has a proven history of successfully leading complex projects, cultivating strong relationships, and implementing impactful process improvements across healthcare settings.
Prior to joining Allegheny General Hospital, Dr. Ambrose served as Director of Nursing at UPMC Magee-Women’s Hospital. In this capacity, she fostered a service-oriented culture with a strong emphasis on employee engagement, quality outcomes, and patient safety. Her leadership resulted in a significant reduction in nursing turnover, and she further developed her expertise in strategic planning, team leadership, regulatory compliance, and cultural change management.
Dr. Ambrose holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She also holds several certifications, including Nurse Executive, Advanced (NEA-BC), and Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP). Dr. Ambrose currently serves as the 2025-2027 President of the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders.
