Handoff Communication Course

Course Overview

This online course is designed for all hospital staff to improve communication skills between clinicians working within the interprofessional healthcare team. The course incorporates the use of proper communication skills from the TeamSTEPPS program developed by the Department of Defense’s Patient Safety Program in collaboration with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

Patient Safety – One Room at a Time

Course Description

This course equips healthcare professionals with a practical methodology to proactively identify and mitigate potential patient safety hazards within their immediate clinical environment. Focusing on a structured, "one room at a time" approach, participants will learn how to systematically assess physical spaces, equipment, processes, and workflow to uncover potential risks before they impact patient care. 

Course Objectives

1. Identify potential hazards in the physical environment.
2. Prioritize identified risks based on severity and likelihood of occurrence.
3. Communicate safety concerns effectively to the appropriate personnel.
