About the Program

The Bariatric and Metabolic Institute at Allegheny Health Network has a unique working and learning environment for the treatment of Obesity. The Bariatric and Metabolic Institute (BMI) at Western Pennsylvania Hospital has a very diverse patient population and disease spectrum. We have three departments working in the same office setting providing comprehensive treatment of Obesity and Metabolic disorders. Obesity Medicine, Endocrinology and Bariatric Surgery work together in this setting to provide the best possible patient care.

The obesity medicine and nutrition fellowship will provide the trainee with the opportunity to build an understanding of the unique conditions involved in the care of the patient with obesity. Fellows will develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to assess patients with obesity and develop treatment utilizing updated clinical resources and evidence-based practices. Fellows will develop the foundational tools necessary to address problem solving, patient assessment and formulation of treatment plans and the coordination of health care for the individuals with obesity. In addition, the fellow will also have the opportunity to rotate (elective) in endocrinology, gastroenterology and sleep medicine. There will also be ample opportunity to take part in research and scholarly activities. Fellow will have a wide range of mentors to choose from within Bariatric and Metabolic Institute as well as the Medicine Institute.
