Important Notice Regarding Medication Prescriptions for AHN Patients

Application Information

Our residency program accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) and participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). ERAS collects the required materials and then transmits these documents from your medical school to our program.

Though our application deadline is December 31st, we strongly encourage applicants to submit their applications by the end of October since our interview schedule fills quickly.

We will begin reviewing applications as soon as ERAS opens on September 27th, and will start notifying applicants of interviews through October and November.

Please provide the following documents to ERAS:

  • Completed application
  • Personal statement
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Official transcript from your medical school
  • Dean’s letter/MSPE
  • Three letters of recommendation (at least one from a specialist in internal medicine)
  • USMLE and/or COMLEX Board score results


We do not require any materials beyond those to be submitted to ERAS and we ask that you do not send any additional material unless we request them from you directly.

USMLE and COMLEX scores

We expect that you will have passed either your USMLE or COMLEX Step I before applying. We require that you pass Step II and Step II-CS before you can enter our program. Therefore, we recommend that you take and pass these exams before applying. If you are a candidate from an Osteopathic Medical School, you should submit your COMLEX scores; you may also submit USMLE scores, but this is not required.

Clinical experience

We encourage graduates from international medical schools to submit letters of recommendation from mentors within the U.S. from hands-on clinical rotations whenever possible, especially in the field of internal medicine. Please note: ECFMG certificates, when appropriate, must be current prior to the Match.

We select eligible applicants based on preparedness, ability, previous record, aptitude, academic credentials, accomplishments, communication skills, motivation, and integrity. FAQs

What is the timeline for your interview process?

We conduct interviews from November through January, with appropriate breaks for the holidays.

We will begin to review applications as soon as ERAS opens to us, on September 27th, and will send invitations through October and November. Our interview slots for the year generally fill by December 1st.

Please note: it is very unlikely that you will receive an interview offer after December 1st  if you have not already been offered a slot or a place on the waiting list. To respect your time and interest, we strive to e-mail all candidates regarding their status by December 1st. This communication will come through the ERAS System.

Which visa types does your program accept?

We accommodate J1 visas.

Does your institution/program offer observerships or externships?

Currently we do not offer any observership or externship positions.

Do you accept applications from Foreign and/or International Graduates?

We are proud of our diverse program and give full consideration to all candidates in our process. Foreign/International Candidates who have successfully matched to our program in recent years have generally graduated from medical school within the past three years, have passed USMLE Step 1, have Step 2 CK scores at least in the 230s, have successfully passed Step 2 CS on the first attempt, and have at least 3-months of clinical activity in the United States (ideally on “hands on” clinical rotations). These are general guidelines meant to help inform our applicants. We give consideration to candidates who do not meet all these criteria, case by case, on the basis of other outstanding attributes, accomplishments, and potential.

Do you offer any pre-Match positions?

No, we fill all positions through the Match.

What is your accreditation status?

Our Internal Medicine Residency Program is fully accredited and has received Osteopathic Recognition by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

What university affiliation does the program have?

We are affiliated with the Drexel University College of Medicine and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

What library resources does your program offer?

Our Health Sciences Library contains more than 11,000 volumes, subscribes to over 166 journals, and offers you all major indices and citation retrieval services on-site to support clinical, educational, and research activities of residents and medical staff members. It is supervised by full-time medical librarians who can provide you with individualized teaching and assistance. They will also complete online bibliographic services and individualized literature searches for you, as a physician in the health system. You may also use the Medicine Institute's computer library, which contains reference materials recommended by the American College of Physicians and has computer work-stations that are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week, for your use when conducting literature searches. You can also access key resources like UpToDate, MicroMedex and over 150 online journals from work or at home.

Is there an on-site daycare center?

Yes, we do offer on-site daycare.

Is there a meal allowance?

Yes, our program includes a meal allowance.

Is there an on-site gym?

Yes, as a resident you have free access to gyms at both of our main training sites.
