About the program

Mission statement

The mission of the AHN Otolaryngology Residency Program is to provide the necessary training to residents so they can gain expertise in patient care, medical research, and professional behavior as it pertains to the field of Otolaryngology. The program will foster the development of essential intellectual and personal attributes which will serve as a foundation for growth and development throughout the resident’s career beyond the training period. The program is designed to serve the Otolaryngology care needs of the Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania community by continued development of the specialty in the region. The educational program is 60 months in length. The program is guided by the Allegheny Health Network mission statement to create a remarkable health experience by maintaining a system focused on trust, stewardship, integrity, patient focused collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Program Aims

  • Training physicians from diverse backgrounds in a model of patient-focused care, building a foundation for them to provide desirable clinical outcomes, create scientific knowledge in the field, and improves the practice of Otolaryngology in the region.
  • Build a supportive program that fosters development of professionalism, caring, and compassion.
  • Create a model that enables Otolaryngology residents to develop expertise, leadership skills and scholarly achievement.
  • Develop the field of Otolaryngology in the Allegheny Health Network to help it deliver safe, quality, efficient care.
