Allegheny Health Network Invites the Community to Contribute to Wexford Hospital Mosaic Mural

Artwork submitted by community members, caregivers and staff will be included in a one-of-a-kind mural to be displayed at AHN’s newest hospital set to open next fall.

WEXFORD, Pa. – As construction of Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Wexford Hospital continues on, so too does the work to ensure that one of the hospital’s most important features shines through – the community.

Hospital officials invite the Western Pennsylvania community to design and share simple artwork pieces which will be arranged in a pre-designed mosaic mural to be located in the corridor connecting Wexford Hospital to AHN’s Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion. The 7x18 foot mural, themed “Caring for our Community,” will be comprised of thousands of tiles with personal depictions of family, unity, health, hometown and more.

“Since announcing our plans to build a hospital in Wexford, the community has welcomed us with open arms and for that we could not be more grateful. This mural will be a visual representation of their voice, as well as our commitment to providing comprehensive care for everyone, at every stage of life, in this region,” said Allan Klapper, MD, president, AHN Wexford Hospital. “No matter your age or artistic ability, we invite you to make your mark on Wexford Hospital by participating in this special project.”

While participants can submit artwork at no cost, they also have the option to sponsor a named tile with a gift of $724 to the Wexford Hospital Fund. Sponsors may choose to use their tile to celebrate a loved one or honor a caregiver.

Artwork can be submitted online. For further instructions on how to submit artwork and/or to sponsor a tile, visit projectsnap.org/ahnwexford/. Also at this website, participants will be able to view their tile(s) within the mural once complete.

Pittsburgh-based wealth management company Hefren-Tillotson is the project’s presenting sponsor. Its gift of $50,000 will support the installation of the mural.

“No matter your level of participation, supporting this single project helps to ensure the health and wellbeing of generations to come in the northern communities of Pittsburgh. We thank the community, and particularly Hefren-Tillotson, for making this possible,” said Allie Quick, AHN Chief Philanthropy Officer.

The mural is offered by Project S.N.A.P., a national nonprofit organization that uses art and storytelling to empower people of all ages around one goal – to become advocates for change in their own lives and communities.

“At Hefren-Tillotson, giving back is part of our culture. We encourage our employees to get involved in the community. Supporting Wexford Hospital’s Project S.N.A.P. was an easy choice because it engages our employees, families, friends, and neighbors,” says Kim Tillotson Fleming, chairman and chief executive officer of Hefren-Tillotson.

Set to open in the fall of 2021, AHN Wexford Hospital will offer comprehensive women and infant care, including labor and delivery services and neonatal intensive care; advanced cardiac, neurosurgical, orthopaedic, surgical and cancer care; a 24-room emergency department and short-stay observation unit; an adult intensive care unit (ICU); operating rooms that provide minimally-invasive robotic surgical capabilities; 160 all-private inpatient rooms; and a host of other patient- and family-friendly clinical programs, amenities and services.

The 345,000-square-foot facility, which is adjacent to AHN’s Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion (12311 Perry Highway), is the single-largest investment in AHN’s history and is expected to employ more than 750 health care professionals.
