AHN Cancer Institute Hosts Cancer Screening in Wexford

PINE TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cancer Institute will host its monthly cancer screening clinic on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the AHN Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion, located at 12311 Perry Highway, Wexford, Pa., 15090. The screening is available to AHN patients and non-AHN patients, and those with or without health insurance.

Those interested in attending should schedule an appointment by calling 412-359-6665. Patients can receive multiple screenings at the event, including:

  • Breast cancer (ages 40-74)
  • Cervical cancer (ages 21-65)
  • Colorectal cancer (ages 45-75)
  • Head and neck cancers (ages 18+)
  • Lung cancer (ages 50-80 with a history of smoking)
  • Prostate cancer (ages 45-74)
  • Skin cancer (ages 18+)

Physicians encourage eligible individuals to attend, even without experiencing symptoms, as early detection is crucial for successful cancer treatment.

According to a recent study by the American Cancer Society, a significant number of eligible adults do not receive recommended lung cancer screenings, often due to lack of health insurance.

"With only 18% of eligible Americans receiving lung cancer screenings, we must remove barriers to improve early detection and survival rates," said James Betler, DO, director of the AHN Cancer Institute Growth and Outreach. "Our accessible monthly cancer screenings provide an opportunity for individuals to proactively take charge of their health."

The August 2024 screening event in Wexford saw 78 patients complete 255 screenings. Future screening events will be held at AHN Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie on Sept. 13, and at AHN Grove City on Oct. 11.

The AHN Cancer Institute has provided comprehensive, convenient cancer screenings since 2014. The program's success and the region's need for accessible prevention and early detection have driven the expansion of the monthly Saturday cancer screening program across Western Pennsylvania over the past four years.

Individuals unable to attend the Saturday clinic can schedule comprehensive cancer screenings by appointment at Jefferson, Forbes, or West Penn Hospitals. Please call 412-359-6665 to schedule these appointments.
