Allegheny Health Network, Community Residents Partner to Create Giant Beautiful Mural at AHN Saint Vincent Celebrating Caregivers and the Region’s Legacy
Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and AHN Saint Vincent Hospital officials gathered today to unveil a giant mosaic mural celebrating the role caregivers at the hospital play in keeping area residents and communities safe and healthy. The mosaic was created from thousands of individual artworks submitted by AHN care givers,, local EMS professionals, patients and their families, donors, students, and other residents of the greater Erie community.
The 8x20-foot Big Picture mural, themed “Caring for our Community,” is comprised of thousands of tiles with personal depictions of family, unity, health, hometown and more. It is has been placed in a main thoroughfare of the hospital for all to enjoy. The “big picture” is a beautiful depiction of well-known landmarks and outdoor spaces in the Erie community; while also showcasing the hospital’s beginnings, care teams, volunteers and more.
“For the past few years, people have poured their hearts into creating individual photos, which are combined in this mosaic to create a beautiful visual representation of the community as well as our healthy system’s mission of service to it and the people who live here , at every stage of life, ” said Chris Clark, DO, president, AHN Saint Vincent Hospital. “People of all ages, walks of life and artistic abilities have helped us bring this extraordinary project to life.”
Individuals and corporations were drawn to this community project to celebrate a tremendous care team and leave a legacy at the hospital. Funds raised from the initiative support the hospital’s Continuing Education Fund.
Presenting sponsors for the project included the AHN Saint Vincent Medical Staff and PNC Bank.
“This mosaic is comprised of thousands of artworks, each individually representing the dedication and compassion of our caregivers and how that care is valued by our community,” said Christine Bowen, Executive Director of Development “the mosaic celebrates the hospital team and those who put their trust in us each day.”
The mural is presented by the AHN Saint Vincent Medical Staff in partnership with Project S.N.A.P., a national nonprofit organization that uses art and storytelling to empower people of all ages around one goal – to become advocates for change in their own lives and communities.
