Allegheny Health Network Achieves First MedsEngine Go-Live in Epic EHR

MedsEngine provides real-time clinical decision support to help doctors optimize evidence-based medication selection for patients with chronic diseases

PITTSBURGH – Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and MediSync announced today the first live integration between MedsEngine® and Epic electronic health record (EHR) system. MedsEngine – a digital tool that provides evidence-based clinical decision support – helps providers make the best possible medication selection decisions in the treatment and control of chronic diseases.

According to a recent report, the U.S. spends more on health care than any other developed nation, but still has the highest rate of people with multiple chronic diseases. Chronic diseases are estimated to account for 75% of total health care spending, with costs borne by employers and consumers.

Physicians treating patients with chronic diseases such as hypertension, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease are challenged to consistently implement the current evidence-based care standards and to access relevant data variables while enduring time and productivity pressures.

MedsEngine provides physicians and advanced practice providers with the technology needed to deliver the highest quality care to patients living with chronic diseases while saving time and reducing overall health care costs. The software application was initially utilized by AHN’s Premier Medical Associates (PMA) – a multi-specialty physician practice in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh.

“Over the past three years, MedsEngine has assisted Premier Medical Associates in improving the health outcomes of thousands of patients living with chronic conditions. Now integrated with Epic, we are pleased that Premier clinicians will continue to have access to this game-changing technology for the benefit of both our caregivers and patients,” said Francis Colangelo, MD, an internist and primary care provider of the group.

PMA was recently recognized with the 2023 Acclaim Award from American Medical Group Association. This esteemed award recognizes the nation’s premier health care organization that has successfully aligned itself with the health care framework known as the ‘Quadruple Aim.’

MedsEngine and Epic utilize the latest interoperability standards including SMART on FHIR to safely and securely access and exchange data to deliver the highest quality of care. MediSync invites leading health care provider organizations using Epic EHR to discover MedsEngine on Connection Hub.
