School of Nursing Research Published

Carol Haus, PhD, RN, CNE, Assistant Director, West Penn Hospital School of Nursing, is coauthor of the article “ Advantages and Barriers to Use of HeartCode™ BLS with Voice Advisory Manikins for Teaching Nursing Students” that appeared in the print and online versions of the July 2010 International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship.

Dr. Haus was West Penn Hospital’s site coordinator for this yearlong study involving 10 nursing schools.  A total of 34 schools across the nation applied to participate in the study.  West Penn’s was the only diploma school selected.

The study was sponsored by the National League for Nursing, the American Heart Association and Laerdal, which manufactures Sim Man and other advanced clinical manikins used in the Simulation, Teaching and Academic Research (STAR) Center at West Penn Allegheny Health System.

West Penn Hospital School of Nursing faculty were involved in facilitating student attendance at teaching, practice and testing sessions throughout 2009.  The STAR Center’s Simulation Specialists Lawrence O’Leary and Josh Franczyk assisted with the practice and testing sessions.
