Nearly 170 Allegheny Health Network Physicians Recognized as “Top Doctors” by Pittsburgh Magazine

Six more AHN doctors identified as among the region’s “Rising Stars”

PITTSBURGH – Nearly 170 Allegheny Health Network (AHN) physicians have been named to Pittsburgh Magazine’s “Top Doctors” list for 2022.

In all, 777 doctors from more than 60 specialties were named to the Pittsburgh Magazine list. AHN’s doctors accounted for more than 20 percent of all physicians named to the list this year.

Of AHN’s recognized physicians, six were also identified as among the Pittsburgh region’s “Rising Stars.” Rising Stars are early career doctors who are emerging leaders in the medical community.

“AHN is home to many of the nation’s finest specialists, surgeons, researchers and physician-educators,” said Donald Whiting, MD, AHN chief medical officer and president of AHN’s employed physician organization, Allegheny Clinic. “We are thrilled that so many of them have been recognized by their peers as ‘Top Doctors,’ and that they have dedicated their careers to building healthier communities and improving the lives of patients in western Pennsylvania.”

The magazine generates its annual “Top Doctors” list through peer-reviewed surveys conducted by Castle Connolly, a New York research and information company. Each year, Castle Connolly surveys tens of thousands of practicing physicians across the country to ensure its list reflects the latest in quality care on both the national and regional levels.

The company evaluates several criteria when selecting “Top Doctors,” including professional qualifications, education, hospital and faculty appointments, research leadership, professional reputation and disciplinary history.

Through Castle Connolly’s research process, about 61,000 board-certified physicians out of 850,000 practicing doctors across the United States have been awarded “Top Doctor” status, representing about 7 percent of the nation’s physicians.
