The Trauma/Surgical Critical Care team participates in scholarly activity and research including ongoing research studies, poster and podium research presentations at the state and national level and invited lectures at the state and national level as well as publications of research in peer-reviewed journals and contributions of book chapters.

Currently, open research projects include studies related to tracheostomy technique, effects of obesity and hyperglycemia on trauma patients, seizure prophylaxis, effects of instituting cardiac medications post-trauma, transfusion practices and special considerations in the geriatric trauma population.

Our residents and trauma attendings have presented at meetings for the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Western Trauma Association, American College of Surgeons and Pennsylvania Committee on Trauma/Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation.

We have contributed to journals including Surgery and The American Surgeon and books including Geriatric Trauma and Emergency Care, Critical Care Ethics: A Practice Guide 3rd ed., Imaging in the ICU Patient and Current Therapy of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care.
