AHN Grove City Hospital Celebrates Grand Opening of Expanded Cancer Institute

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Allegheny Health Network (AHN) today announced the grand opening of its significantly expanded Cancer Institute at AHN Grove City Hospital (631 N Broad St Ext, Grove City, Pa. 16127). The expansion nearly triples the Cancer Institute's existing footprint, growing from 1,145 square feet to 3,100 square feet.

AHN leaders and community leaders cut the ribbon on Wednesday, Oct. 15. A community open house will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. to allow the public to tour the new facility. The facility is expected to be open to patients beginning Monday, Nov. 3.

The project transformed existing space on the hospital’s first floor near the cafeteria into a substantially larger and more patient-centered cancer facility, enhancing the comfort, privacy, and convenience of care for those undergoing cancer treatment.

Key improvements include:

  • Increased Chemotherapy Infusion Bay Capacity: The number of infusion bays has increased from six to eight, each featuring private walls for enhanced patient privacy and comfort. The new infusion bays also include extra space for a support person to accompany the patient.
  • Expanded Exam Rooms: The number of exam rooms for provider visits has grown from two to three, reducing wait times and improving access to care.
  • Larger Check-in Area: The check-in area has been expanded to accommodate more patients and streamline the registration process.
  • Convenient New Entrance: A new exterior entrance at the south side of the building provides patients with direct access to parking, simplifying arrival and departure.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional cancer care to the Grove City community and surrounding areas,” said Christopher Clark, DO, MHA, president of AHN Grove City Hospital. “This expansion reflects our dedication to creating a healing environment that prioritizes the comfort, well-being, and individual needs of our patients, ensuring they receive the highest quality care close to home."

Services available at the AHN Cancer Institute – Grove City include medical oncology, infusion therapy, nutritional counseling, social service support, and access to cancer clinical trials.

“The opening of the expanded Cancer Institute at AHN Grove City represents a major step forward in our ability to provide comprehensive and cutting-edge cancer care to the region,” said David Bartlett, MD, chair of the AHN Cancer Institute and president of the AHN Research Institute. “We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Grove City Health Care Foundation and Buhl Regional Health Foundation, whose investments have made this vital resource a reality for our patients and their families.”

The $4.4 million expansion was made possible by a generous $1 million gift from the Grove City Health Care Foundation, which supported the construction of the new space. Additionally, the Buhl Regional Health Foundation provided $65,000 to support cancer patient assistance, helping to cover lodging, travel, and other essential needs for patients in Lawrence and Mercer counties.

“The Grove City Health Care Foundation is proud to have played a key role in bringing this state-of-the-art cancer center to our community,” said attorney Tim Bonner, foundation chair. “This investment reflects our commitment to ensuring that residents have access to the best possible health care services right here in Grove City.”

The former Grove City Medical Center became part of AHN in January 2020, and the AHN Cancer Institute opened at the facility on July 15, 2020. Since that time, oncology patient volume has increased dramatically year over year, serving a record number of patients in 2024.
