Allegheny Health Network’s Wexford, Jefferson, Canonsburg, Allegheny Valley and Grove City Hospitals Lauded by Leapfrog Group for Health Care Safety Excellence
PITTSBURGH, PA —Five Allegheny Health Network (AHN) hospitals have earned the highest possible ‘A’ grades in The Leapfrog Group's Fall 2025 safety rating survey.
In Leapfrog’s most recent national report, which recognizes hospitals for patient care quality and safety, AHN Wexford, AHN Jefferson, AHN Canonsburg, AHN Allegheny Valley and AHN Grove City Hospitals all received “A” grades.
“These top marks from The Leapfrog Group are a powerful reflection of our caregivers’ relentless commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care to every patient, every day,” said Mark Sevco, president, AHN. “Patient safety is the foundation of everything we do at AHN, and it’s rewarding to see that work recognized nationally across multiple hospitals in our system.”
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization committed to improving patient awareness of health care quality and safety. Updated and published each spring and fall, the Safety Grade report assigns hospitals across the country an A, B, C, D, or F grade based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other harm to patients under their care. Grades are assigned to nearly 3,000 general acute-care hospitals.
Allegheny Health Network Outpatient Center, Westmoreland Surgery also earned the prestigious Leapfrog Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Award for its commitment to patient safety and quality.
“We are incredibly proud of this recognition, which reflects the culture of excellence and accountability that defines AHN’s surgical and outpatient care,” said Ezz-Eldin Moukamal, MD, chief quality officer, AHN. “Our teams work tirelessly to ensure that patients receive the safest, most compassionate care possible, whether in the hospital or in an outpatient setting.”
AHN Wexford Hospital, serving Pittsburgh’s North Hills, opened to patients in September 2021. This is the fourth grading period that AHN’s newest, full-service hospital was eligible to receive a grade from Leapfrog. AHN Wexford received an A grade in The Leapfrog Group's Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 Hospital Safety Grades report.
“Receiving continuous ‘A’ grades from The Leapfrog Group is a tremendous achievement for our entire team,” said Allan Klapper, MD, president, AHN Wexford Hospital. “It speaks to the skill, dedication, and compassion of our caregivers, who consistently go above and beyond to deliver outstanding care in a safe and healing environment.”
