Realism in Simulation: The Art of Moulage and Use of Standardized Patients

The purpose of this course is to introduce facilitators to the art of Moulage and use of Standardized Patients(SP’s). Moulage is when facilitators apply mock injuries and signs of illness to the simulators and environment to enhance training to healthcare providers.

The use of Standardized Patients (trained actors) will provide a more realistic and emotional experience in your simulation education.

Learning objectives

  • Define Standardized Patient (SP) and recognize their role in simulation.
  • Review the technique of moulage.
  • Recognize how to incorporate SP and moulage into simulation for the purpose of making the Scenario more realistic.
