About Allegheny Valley Hospital

Since its beginning in 1909, Allegheny Valley Hospital (AVH) has been providing healthcare, education and support to more than 160,000 residents in portions of Allegheny, Butler, Westmoreland and Armstrong counties. Located northeast of Pittsburgh, Allegheny Valley Hospital consists of a hospital campus in Natrona Heights and outpatient care centers in New Kensington, Natrona Heights, and Vandergrift.

The 200-bed hospital serves as AVH’s inpatient facility and offers a broad spectrum of programs, including medical and surgical services, emergency and urgent care, inpatient adult and geriatric psychiatric care, cardiology, gynecology, oncology, and orthopedics. Virtually all outpatient services are available on the hospital campus.

To continue to invest in its future, in 2010 AVH embarked on a $15.6 million emergency and urgent care services expansion and renovation project greatly enhancing the hospital’s emergency medicine and urgent care capabilities. In 2011, the hospital achieved status as an accredited Chest Pain Center and in 2012 implemented a stroke tele-medicine program offering patients access to the highly-skilled stroke experts at Allegheny General Hospital.

AVH also offers a very active gastroenterology program supported by a well-equipped, newly renovated endoscopy unit, and a wide array of sophisticated cardiology services, including echocardiography, trans-esophageal and Doppler ultrasound studies.

A member of the Allegheny Health Network, AVH is also home to the Cancer Institute, offering medical and radiation oncology services linked to Allegheny General Hospital.

AVH offers several outpatient locations throughout the community to provide a wide range of services close to home.

The hospital has distinguished itself on many fronts including being consistently recognized locally and nationally for providing outstanding quality care ranking the hospital’s performance among the best in the country.
